Themes

Headmaster ships with several built-in themes:
ThemeDescription
LightClean white background, dark text. For daytime use.
DarkDark background, light text. For nighttime and low-light use.
Follow SystemAutomatically switches between Light and Dark based on your OS setting.
High ContrastMaximum contrast for accessibility. Black and white.
Pick a theme from the dropdown. The change applies instantly — no restart needed.

Custom CSS themes

For advanced users, Headmaster supports custom CSS themes:
  1. Open Settings → My Headmaster → Look → Custom theme.
  2. Click Create custom theme.
  3. Write CSS that overrides Headmaster’s design tokens.
  4. Save and apply.
The CSS editor has a live preview — you see the changes as you type. The custom theme is stored as a .css file in your data directory.

Design tokens

Headmaster’s UI is built on CSS custom properties (design tokens). You can override any of them in a custom theme:

Importing and sharing themes

Custom themes can be exported as .css files and shared. To import a theme:
  1. Open Settings → My Headmaster → Look → Custom theme.
  2. Click Import.
  3. Select a .css file.
  4. The theme appears in the theme list.

Font size

Adjust the font size with:
  • The font size slider in Settings → Look.
  • Keyboard shortcuts: Cmd/Ctrl + = to increase, Cmd/Ctrl + - to decrease, Cmd/Ctrl + 0 to reset.
The font size applies to the chat, sidebar, and settings — everywhere in the app. The file preview panel and code editor have their own independent font size controls.

Accent color

The accent color is used for buttons, links, active states, and the primary action color. Pick from the preset colors or enter a custom hex value. The accent color applies instantly. It does not affect the theme — you can have a dark theme with any accent color.

Language

Headmaster’s interface language. Currently supports:
  • English (default)
  • Arabic (reserved for a future release)
The language dropdown in Settings → Look controls the UI language. This does not affect what language the agent responds in — the agent responds in whatever language you write to it in.

Density

Control how compact the UI is:
  • Comfortable (default) — standard spacing, easy to read.
  • Compact — tighter spacing, more content visible at once.
Useful when you’re on a small screen or want to see more of the conversation without scrolling.
